Gendarme killed on the A13: the driver of the heavy goods vehicle indicted

Which lane for the A13 truck driver? By hitting several vehicles on the highway on October 25, the 21-year-old man killed a policeman and injured three others. This resident of Pas-de-Calais has been indicted for “manslaughter” and “unintentional injuries” by driver, the Evreux prosecutor’s office announced on Friday. “Unable to remember seconds, even minutes before the accident”, the driver with a clean criminal record, was placed under judicial control, detailed to AFP the public prosecutor of Evreux Rémi Coutin, confirming the information from local media.

Prohibition on driving a heavy goods vehicle

The driver is “prohibited from driving a heavy goods vehicle, from exercising the profession of truck driver and will have to report his movements outside the national territory”, he adds. However, “he had to drive at 94 km / h, a speed below the limits, specifies the magistrate, and had made the regulatory breaks while respecting the driving time.”

The investigation will have to determine in particular whether he was able to drive this truck at 3 am. Whether he was able to doze off or feel unwell when his refrigerated truck hit several vehicles parked on the side as part of an anti-drug operation, notes the prosecutor.

The deceased warrant officer was married with four children

This had led to the arrest of two people whose police custody was lifted following the accident in order to “prioritize relief for the many injured” according to the public prosecutor of Rennes Philippe Astruc. “The judicial treatment of the situation of the defendants will naturally be resumed in due time”, he specifies, refuting that the two suspects are “on the run”. Occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on the A13 near Saint-Mards-de-Blacarville (Eure), the accident had caused the death of a warrant officer from the Rennes research section, aged 47, married and father of four children.

Seven other people, including three gendarmes, were injured. One of the soldiers is “still in a coma” according to Rémi Coutin. The Evreux prosecutor’s office also opened a judicial investigation against X for “manslaughter, involuntary injuries and endangering others”. This in order to determine if “other responsibilities than that of the truck driver could possibly be engaged.”
