George Takei: "Star Trek" legend uses Vulcan salute against Corona

George Takei (83) has always celebrated his connection with "Star Trek". In times of Corona, he even frequently uses a famous greeting from the popular sci-fi universe, such as the long-time actor, who is particularly famous for his role as Lieutenant Sulu in "Spaceship Enterprise", in conversation with the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" "betrayed.

Identification mark against the pandemic

To keep his distance, Takei makes the Vulcan greeting, which was introduced by his late colleague Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015) instead of greeting his counterpart with a handshake or the like. For the gesture, Vulcans raise a hand in the known universe and spread their ring and middle fingers, creating a "V". He uses the greeting as his "form of social distancing".

In addition, Takei say the associated sentence – and it is so fitting today – "Live long and prosper". In German, the translation "Long live and in peace" has become natural. In the past decades, the greeting has become a kind of distinctive mark among fans of the "Star Trek" universe.
