Gérald Darmanin: “There is not a Frenchman who thinks Emmanuel Macron was not a good president”

Guest of the program “Political Questions” this Sunday on Franceinfo, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin defended the results of Emmanuel Macron, considering “that there is not a Frenchman who thinks that he does not was not a good President of the Republic”.

The boss of Place Beauvau felt that the Head of State had resisted the crises that his government has gone through particularly well, referring to the yellow vests and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I think the president is the one who allowed France to get through these crises,” he said. A statement that would not be unanimous. At least on certain subjects.

Indeed, according to the Odoxa barometer for Le Figaro, 62% of French people believe that Emmanuel Macron’s mandate was bad on security.

Marine Le Pen deemed “dangerous”

If he considered that Emmanuel Macron had on the whole carried out his files rather well during his five-year term, Gérald Darmanin was however worried about the omnipresence of Marine Le Pen in the debates which cross society.

“On the Tourcoing market, we talk about Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. We are no longer talking about the socialist left, we are not talking about Zemmour,” he said.

According to him, the National Rally candidate for the next presidential election would be “the most dangerous” and potentially the closest to beating the outgoing president in the second round.

The “concrete and pragmatic” right on the side of Emmanuel Macron

While some candidates advocate for a union of the right, Gérald Darmanin supports the theory that Emmanuel Macron “that today, the Gaullist, liberal, European, concrete and pragmatic right naturally supports the President of the Republic”.

According to the latest OpinionWay poll for CNEWS, Emmanuel Macron, who has still not announced his candidacy, would be credited with 24% of voting intentions. He would be ahead of Marine Le Pen (18%) and Valérie Pécresse (17%).

If he is still not officially in the race for his re-election, the Head of State has in any case already obtained the 500 necessary sponsorships, before all the other candidates.
