In 2014, Philippe Lacheau was directing his film Babysitting. When he was only a young beginner, he found himself facing Gérard Jugnot, who made him experience a few moments of discomfort, without knowing it.
In the great family of French cinema, there are certain names that impress, and Philippe Lacheau paid the price. On the occasion of the release of his film super hero in spite of himselfin theaters from Wednesday February 2, the actor and director was Nagui’s guest in “The original band”. At the microphone of France InterPhilippe Lacheau, accompanied by Tarek Boudali, returned to some early career anecdotes.
Philippe Lacheau returned to his acting debut, but also to his first steps behind the camera, with the production of Baby sitting. The film released in 2014 turned out to be a consecration for the companion of Élodie Fontan, who has seen his career take off, chaining achievements and roles alongside his companion as well as Tarek Boudali with whom he forms an already emblematic pair. For his first production, Philippe Lacheau was able to count on a prestigious cast including several big names like Clotilde Courau and Gérard Jugnot.
Philippe Lacheau: “You take a lot of tweezers because you don’t feel legitimate”
If the director could not hope for better actors for his first film at the cinema, he still remembers his first day, and the feeling of apprehension and intimidation faced with these emblematic figures of French cinema. “I was very apprehensive with Gérard Jugnot and Clotilde Courau, I said to myself ‘but what am I going to tell them'”he recalled with great amusement on France Inter.
Philippe Lacheau reveals to have been the victim of an impostor syndrome during his first days of filming, during which his function was to guide Gérard Jugnot. “I had never made a film, and Gérard, he has the career that we know him. When I was going to tell him ‘no, it was not good, we have to do it again’“he told Nagui.
The actor who exchanged a kiss with Kate Winslet, therefore had to arm himself with courage on the film sets, to make remarks to Gérard Jugnot, despite his admiration and gratitude. “You try nicely, but you take a lot of tweezers because you don’t feel legitimate (…) I had the impression that he was doing me an incredible service (…) you have to take a little bit of confidence”ended the grateful director facing Gérard Jugnot who had accepted the role.
