Gerhard "Gerry" Weber is dead. The entrepreneur and founder of the fashion brand Gerry Weber died in the night from Wednesday to Thursday (September 24th), as the Gerry Weber International AG announced on its website. "We remember a highly respected entrepreneur with great gratitude and respect and we mourn the loss of a deeply impressive personality", explained Alexander Gedat, CEO of Gerry Weber AG. "Colleagues and companions will remember him as a brilliant entrepreneurial personality who tirelessly and with infinite strength drove the success of his company forward."
Gerhard Weber founded the fashion company in 1973 with his friend Udo Hardieck as Hatex KG in his hometown of Halle / Westphalia. In 1986 the brand name "Gerry Weber" was protected worldwide. In 1989 he brought the company to the stock exchange as Gerry Weber International AG. Weber has not been involved in the company since last year. The entrepreneur also became known through the ATP tennis turf tournament named after Gerry Weber in Halle (1993 to 2018). Noventi has been the main sponsor of the tournament since 2019.
