German uninjured – skier (28) fell in a crevasse in Tyrol

On Tuesday, a German skier (28) fell into a crevasse on the Hintertux Glacier in the open ski area. The man was lucky in misfortune: he was rescued unharmed.

At around 4 p.m., the 28-year-old went downhill on his alpine skis on the Hintertux Glacier in the open, unsecured and glaciated ski area. In doing so, he overlooked a partially open crevasse that was blown in with fresh snow, subsequently fell into the crevice that was around 70 degrees steep, about eight meters deep, and remained there unharmed.

Man felt safe
“The man was then able to make the emergency call independently with his cell phone,” the police said. He was rescued unharmed by the emergency services by means of a “pulley”. According to the executive, the German stated that he felt safe due to the large number of traces and underestimated the risk of falling into a crevasse. The Tux mountain rescue service, employees of the Zillertaler Gletscherbahnen, the emergency doctor and the police helicopters were in action.
