The last season of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” will run in 2023. These talents made their breakthrough with the talent show.

RTL discontinues the casting show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. “After two very successful decades, we will celebrate the show one last time,” explains RTL entertainment director Markus Küttner. Sometimes a break would be good, emphasizes Küttner. But before that, the talents of tomorrow can hope one last time for a career like the following stars have had.

Alexander Klaws

Alexander Klaws (38) was the first “DSDS” winner in history. He won the talent show in 2003 at the age of 20. His successful winning song “Take Me Tonight” came from former jury veteran Dieter Bohlen (68). Today the ex-casting star is successful as an actor, singer and musical performer. He celebrated great success with the musicals “Tanz der Vampire”, “Tarzan” and “Ghost – Das Musical”. For two years he took on a leading role in the Sat.1 telenovela “Anna und die Liebe”. He also has a “Let’s Dance” victory and the triumph of “The Masked Singer” in 2021. In April of this year he appeared in the RTL live musical as Jesus Christ in “Die Passion”. Klaws also found happiness in his private life: during rehearsals for the musical “Tarzan” he met his current wife Nadja Scheiwiller (36). The couple have two sons together. After 2019, Klaws is currently playing the main role of Winnetou at the Karl May Games in Bad Segeberg for the second time.

Anna Maria Zimmerman

It wasn’t enough for Anna-Maria Zimmermann (33) to win in 2005, but sixth place didn’t stand in the way of her music career. From 2007 she released singles like “1000 Dreams Far (Tornerò)” and performed in nightclubs on Mallorca. In 2010 her debut album “Einfach Anna!” was released. The release was overshadowed by a helicopter accident involving the pop singer. She became paralyzed in her left arm. Anna-Maria Zimmermann did not give up and returned to the stage in 2011. Since then she has released five more studio albums and various singles such as “100,000 Shining Stars” or “Himmelblaue Augen”.

Pietro Lombardi

Pietro Lombardi (30) is one of the most successful “DSDS” winners of all time. More than ten years after his win in 2011, the now 30-year-old continues to enjoy great popularity. In 2020 the artist released his third studio album “Lombardi”. This stayed in second place in the German charts for a whole 20 weeks. He also sat in the 16th and 17th season of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” as a juror next to Dieter Bohlen, who also wrote numerous songs for the singer. In March 2022 he released his new single “I don’t let you go” and entered the top 20 of the single charts. Filming is also currently underway for Pietro Lombardi’s own show: The singer is looking for a singing talent. The winner receives a recording contract with their newly founded label.

Sarah Engels

While participating in “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” in 2011, Sarah Engels (29) and winner Pietro were considered a dream couple. The runner-up and the winner married in 2013. Two years later, their son Alessio (6) was born. The couple then divorced in 2019. But not only privately, a lot has happened in Sarah Lombardi’s life since the “DSDS” participation. The singer proved her fighting spirit in many TV formats such as “Das Große Promibacken”, “Dancing on Ice” or in 2020 as a skeleton on “The Masked Singer”. In each of these formats, Lombardi was also able to take home the win. The 29-year-old also seems to have found happiness in her private life: she has been married to soccer player Julian Engels (28), born Büscher, since May 2021. The couple became parents to a daughter in December of the same year.

Anna Carina Woitschack

In addition to Sarah Engels and Pietro Lombardi, the puppeteer Anna-Carina Woitschack (29) also took part in “DSDS” in 2011. After her eighth place she started as a solo artist. Her single “I want this summer” stayed in the charts for more than ten weeks in 2013. She celebrated even greater success with the single “Stark wie Zwei”, which she recorded with Stefan Mross (46). The two hit stars have been in a relationship since December 2016 and have been married since June 2020. They said yes as part of the TV show “Schlagerlovestory”.

Norman Langen

The eighth season of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” produced another talent: Norman Langen (37). With his interpretations of hits by Jürgen Drews (76) and Wolfgang Petry (70), he made it to seventh place. In the same year, his cover versions and four of his own tracks were included on the album “Pures Gold”. Five more studio albums followed. With the income from his music, Norman Langen supports charitable causes such as the charity project “Schlagerstars für Kinder” or the SOS Children’s Villages.

luca Haenni

A year after Pietro Lombardi’s victory, the Swiss Luca Hänni (27) conquered the “DSDS” stage and the hearts of numerous fans. In 2012, the then 18-year-old won the final and landed a number one hit with the song “Don’t Think About Me” written by Bohlen. Hänni still seems to be running smoothly, both privately and professionally. After participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, where he took fourth place for Switzerland with “She Got Me”, he released his fifth studio album in 2020. In the spring of the same year he made it to third place with his dance partner Christina Luft (32) on “Let’s Dance”. The two announced their relationship in July 2020, got engaged earlier this year and are currently planning their wedding.

Beatrice Egli

The victory went to Switzerland again: Beatrice Egli (34) was the first pop singer to win the singing contest in 2013. In the course of her career she has already produced ten studio albums and these have regularly reached the top positions in the German and Austrian charts as well as in the charts in her Swiss homeland. Since 2019 she has been considered the most successful Swiss artist. From 2015 to 2017 she also produced musical journeys through her homeland and selected European cities for public television stations. In April 2022, she performed “The Beatrice Egli Show” for the first time.

Prince Damien

Before taking part in “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”, Prince Damien (31) had already had a taste of casting air: in April 2015 he applied to the British casting show “The X-Factor”. There he made it to boot camp. Just a few months later, the singer, who was born Messiah Prince Sheridan Damien Ritzinger, tried his luck at the German singing show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” – and won it in May 2016. The song “Glücksmoment” reached number one in the download charts . Prince Damien was not a flash in the pan. In 2016 he dubbed a frog in the animated film “Sing”, finished second together with Luca Hänni in the dance show “Dance Dance Dance” in 2017 and acted as a musical actor in the piece “The Band”. In 2020, the singer also became the king of the jungle on “I’m a star – get me out of here!” and made a guest appearance on “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here! The Big Jungle Party” in 2022.

These ex-candidates are also successful

Maria Voskania (34), who took twelfth place in the third season of the show, and Vanessa Neigert (30), who made it to sixth place in 2009, can now look forward to successful hit careers. Fourth-placed Nevio Passaro (42) from season three is also still successful in music. He has released five studio albums and produces and composes for other artists. Other former candidates such as Menderes Bağcı (37), Daniele Negroni (26), Annemarie Eilfeld (32), Kim Gloss (29) or Joey Heindle (29) enriched numerous reality formats such as “I’m a star – get me here out!”, “Celebrity Big Brother” or “The Summer House of the Stars”.
