Cards and letters are “comfort and encouragement”

King Charles received well-wishes in more than 7,000 cards and letters. A great joy for the monarch, who is suffering from cancer.
King Charles III (75) revealed that the numerous cards he received from kind people after his cancer diagnosis “move him to tears” but also put a smile on his face.
Since announcing his cancer diagnosis nearly three weeks ago on February 5, the 75-year-old monarch has received more than 7,000 cards and letters from around the world. A selection of these was presented to him in his red box, which he receives daily with important documents. Many people share their own experiences with cancer in their submissions. Others send good wishes and advice for a speedy recovery. “We say THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to write,” is what the palace says.
King Charles III: “The greatest consolation”
The cards were revealed in a social media video posted by Buckingham Palace on Friday. The video was taken two days after the king’s first personal meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (43) since beginning his cancer treatment.
“I have received countless heartwarming messages and cards. Most of the time they brought tears to my eyes,” the British king is quoted as saying. And: “All those affected by cancer will know that such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.”
One card seemed to particularly amuse Charles. It shows a dog with a ruff. In a speech bubble the animal says: “King Charles, at least you don’t have to wear a neck brace!” Another card, on the other hand, strikes a more emotional tone: “The most important thing is family,” it says.
On February 5, 2024, the royal family announced that Charles was suffering from “a form of cancer.” Exactly what the disease was was not communicated. The cancer was discovered during tests during a hospital stay in London. Charles underwent prostate surgery. But it is not prostate cancer, the royal family made it clear.
