Ghislaine Maxwell (58) is not released. The former confidante of the late Jeffrey Epstein (1953-2019) must remain in detention pending a possible trial on July 12, 2021. That was now decided by a court in New York at Maxwell's bail hearing.
According to the New York Times, trial judge Alison Nathan said in her verdict that Maxwell had "demonstrated a sophisticated ability to hide and hide her financial resources." Maxwell posed a "substantial and actual risk of escape".
Maxwell pleads "not guilty"
Maxwell has been in a prison in Brooklyn, New York since her arrest on July 2. Her lawyers applied for bail last week. The offer included a $ 5 million bail and house arrest with GPS monitoring.
Maxwell is to be tried on six charges – including seducing minors into illegal sexual acts and perjury. The 58-year-old is accused of helping Epstein abuse underage girls.
