Ghost: which actress refused the role held by Demi Moore?

Before setting his sights on Demi Moore, director Jerry Zucker had offered the role of Molly Jensen, heroine of the film Ghost, to another actress. Find out which one.

In 1990, Demi Moore became a Hollywood star after landing one of the lead roles in the film Ghost, to be found this Sunday, September 4, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on 6ter. But another actress could have given the reply to patrick swayze. Indeed, when he was looking for the one who would play the character of Molly Jensen, director Jerry Zucker auditioned several big names in the people world, such as Nicole Kidman and Madonna, in vain. The filmmaker had finally decided to ask an icon of the 1980s to play this role which gave him so much trouble, to know Molly Ringwald.

The choice seemed found but it was without counting on the reaction of the star of the Breakfast Club. Molly Ringwald refused the role, like Meg Ryan, who would not have believed in this love story. Without heroin, Jerry Zucker quickly found his happiness by discovering the poster of the fantastic film The Seventh Prophecy, by Carl Schultz, released in 1988. On the latter? None other than Demi Moore. Despite the refusals of the stars he hoped to see take on the role of Molly Jensen, Jerry Zucker was delighted to see that the young actress brought him luck. Ghost broke records grossing $507 million at the US box office.

Ghost: Molly Ringwald turned down two other cult roles during her career

An unexpected success, especially for Molly Ringwald, who ended up regretting having refused the role of Molly Jensen, describing this choice as the biggest regret of her career. But she was not at the end of her troubles. While Demi Moore chained the castings, before joining the cast of Ghost, Molly Ringwald would have refused two other cult roles. Namely, that of Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman, and that of Sidney Prescott in Scream. It was ultimately Julia Roberts and Neve Campbell who stole the show.
