The gaming mini-PC market is booming. But, as often, their main constraint is to succeed in offering peak performance while managing an inevitable rise in temperature.

A constraint that GIGABYTE kept in mind when designing the AORUS Model S 12th: a mini-PC that relies (almost) everything on ventilation.

A design reminiscent of the Xbox Series X

The Aorus Model S 12th was presented at Computex last week. It presents itself as a rather sober tower, which inevitably evokes Microsoft’s latest game console: the Xbox Series X.

Measuring 400 mm high by 190 mm wide and 180 mm deep, the device is quite compact (volume 14 L) and will naturally find its place on the desk or the TV cabinet of gamers and gamers. And, just like the Xbox Series X, the Aorus Model S 12th has an impressive ventilation system.

The tower is crossed by an airflow provided by a 120 mm fan, placed under the block grouping the CPU and the GPU, and another 140 mm located on top. A layout that also guarantees optimal silence, even under heavy load: GIGABYTE announces less than 40 dB even on a recent game and in 4K.

A muscular configuration

As its name suggests, the AORUS Model S 12th is based around an Intel Core 12e generation. Here is its complete configuration:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-12700K
  • Motherboard: Z690 Express Chipset
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR5 4800 MHz
  • Storage: 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0
  • Power supply: 750W 80 PLUS (GOLD)
  • Network: WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2
  • Front connectors: 1x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type C; 2x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A; 3.5mm jack
  • Rear connectors: 2x HDMI; 3x Display Port; 1x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C; 3x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A; 2x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A; 1x RJ-45 (2.5GbE); 2x SMA (2T2R); 2x Audio; Q-Flash Plus button

A modern configuration (even if we could have hoped for an RTX 3080 or a 3070 Ti) which does not yet have a release date or an announced price.

Therefore, it is still a little early to decide on the relevance of Gigabyte’s machine in a boiling market.
