After the anti-Semitism allegations by singer Gil Ofarim against two hotel employees, the hotel manager now explains how to proceed.

After the anti-Semitism allegations by singer Gil Ofarim (39) against two employees of the “Westin” hotel chain in Leipzig, the hotel manager now speaks up. “We are trying to approach this incident very professionally, with the sovereign distance to illuminate things and to achieve a reasonable result in the end when all the facts are on the table”, explains Andreas Hachmeister in an RTL video.

“The allegations are directed against our hotel and against the employees who were involved,” Hachmeister is quoted further by the broadcaster. The events described are “intolerable” and urgently need to be clarified: “If an employee has made discriminatory or anti-Semitic statements, consequences will follow. We stand for diversity against discrimination and anti-Semitism.”

Two employees were on leave for the duration of the investigation.

The further procedure

An external company is now to investigate the case. “We will immediately arrange for the investigation,” said Hachmeister. In this context he speaks of the cooperation with Ofarim’s management, the police or public prosecutor’s office and the Central Council of Jews. In addition, “all guests who were in the lobby that evening will be interviewed accordingly,” he says.

Concrete results should be available at the beginning of next week.

“Pack your star!”

On Tuesday, the Munich singer reported with tears in an Instagram video of the experience of checking in at the hotel. “Someone from the corner calls out: ‘Pack your star!’ And then Mr. W said: ‘Pack your star!’ And he said, ‘If I pack up now, I can check in.’ “
