God of War: the series will be extremely faithful to the games, promises Amazon

The God of War saga will soon be adapted into a series by Amazon. The firm is now trying to reassure fans by promising a story that is extremely faithful to what we have seen in the games.

With the recent release of God of War Ragnarök, Santa Monica Studio’s saga is on the rise. Amazon plans to adapt it in series for its Prime Video platform and today, we have a little more info on the subject.

It is in the columns of Collider that Vernon Sanders, the boss of Amazon Studios, spoke about this series. He promises that she will be extremely faithful in the base game. Out of the question for him to distance himself too much from the original work.

God of War series will adapt 2018 game

First important info: the series will be based on the 2018 game (simply named God of War) and not on the original trilogy. No need to hope to see Kratos massacre the Greek god with all his might, therefore, except in possible flashbacks. Nor should it deviate too much from what we have already seen:

“We do incredibly well with adaptations, from Invincible to The Boys. I mean, we did quite a bit, right? And we know there are a lot of passionate God of War fans out there. The most important thing for us is whether there’s an emotional core to the script, whether there’s a real story, and I think that’s what makes God of War such a special saga. »

He then continues, adding an interesting detail: several seasons are already planned.

“At the center of it all, there will be a story of father, son, family, all anchored in a gigantic and epic universe. What Rafe Judkins (the showrunner), Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (writers) will do for the first season and for the series will be incredibly faithful to the basic work, but will also be completely independent. If you’ve never played the game, you’ll fall in love with the series and feel involved. I think it’s going to be huge. »

All that remains now is to patiently wait for the release of the series, which shouldn’t happen for two or three years. As a reminder, God of War 2018 tells us the story of Kratos, ancient Greek god of war, left to live in Midgard with the Nordic gods. Along with his son, Atreus, Kratos is on a mission to scatter his wife’s ashes on the highest peak of the nine realms. A simple story, but which focuses above all on its characters and their complex relationships.

Video games seem to be the new Eldorado for series producers. For example, we had Halo recently, Arcane last year and soon, The Last of Us will be entitled to its burst of episodes on HBO. God of War is therefore part of this wave.
