“Oppenheimer” and “Succession” are the big winners
It was hard to miss “Oppenheimer” at the Golden Globes.

The 2024 Golden Globes have revealed some clear Oscar favorites – as well as some potential losers.
“Oppenheimer” won the “Best Drama” award at the Golden Globes, which differentiate between “drama” and “musical or comedy” in both the film and series categories. Nolan also received an award for his directing work. Murphy received the award for “Best Actor in a Drama,” while “Oppenheimer” colleague Robert Downey Jr. (58) won in the supporting actor category. Globe number five was then given for the film’s soundtrack.
Other important awards went to “Killers of the Flower Moon” actress Lily Gladstone (37) as “Best Drama Actress” and Paul Giamatti (56) for the comedy “The Holdovers”. His colleague Da’Vine Joy Randolph (37) received the award in the supporting actress category.
A clear winner also emerged early on in the series. The acclaimed drama series “Succession” collected four Golden Globes over the course of the evening: It was named “Best Drama Series”, Kieran Culkin (41) beat out his TV father Brian Cox (77) and snagged him the award for “Best Actor in a drama series”. Sarah Snook (36) won the actresses and her “Succession” husband Matthew Macfadyen (49) won the supporting actors. In short: As in the series, the Globes stayed in the family.
Everyone involved can also watch the series “The Bear” as a clear winner, which was recognized as “Best Series – Musical or Comedy”. Lead actor Jeremy Allen White (32) and leading actress Ayo Edebiri (28) completed a total of three awards.
The losers of the evening
Greta Gerwig’s (40) film “Barbie” was of course also the most successful film of the past year in numerous categories. Although he won two Golden Globes (for the song “What Was I Made For” and its audience success), overall the disappointment probably outweighed the disappointment. Gerwig lost out to Nolan, “Barbie” lead actress Margot Robbie (33) lost out to Emma Stone (35) and her film “Poor Things” also triumphed in the “Best Comedy or Musical” category.
Due to the immense success of “Succession,” one series in particular fell by the wayside: “The Crown.” The story about the British royal family only won a Golden Globe – Elizabeth Debicki (33) was awarded a Globe as supporting actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana.
From a German perspective, there was excitement in the film category “Best Actress in a Drama”. “Toni Erdmann” star Sandra Hülser (45) took part in it thanks to “Anatomy of a Case”, but came away empty-handed thanks to Lily Gladstone’s triumph. After all: the French production with Hülser in the lead role was awarded “Best Foreign Language Film” and “Best Screenplay”.
