Our opinion onASUS Zephyrus Duo :
The machines have a rather imposing chassis which measures only 2 cm thick, sports a very sober matte gray coating, the range logo on the hood being here only a mirror. Upon opening, we find a remote keyboard on the lower part, the second screen and a matte gray coating, to a united and rather pleasant visual effect. The finish is neat, the Zephyrus Duo gives in solidity when closed, but it will have to be taken good care of when open.
On the connection side, ASUS recites his lesson including on the slices on Zephyrus Duo two USB 3.2 ports, one USB-C port, two Jack 3.5 ports and the power supply port. You have to look on the back of the PC to find a last USB 3.1 port, an Ethernet port and an HDMI 2.0 output, it’s very classic, but sufficient for most uses. The user can thus connect his helmet to it. VR or reserve the USB ports for a mouse and headphones.
When the hood opens, the second 14.1″ on-board screen lifts using a hinge. The resolution climbs up to 3840 x 1100 pixels, with a touch screen. This additional screen is an ultra-complete toolbox, certainly allowing you to display anything on the lower part of the computer (such as videos, its stream Twitter, a text to be copied, etc.), but also applications ASUS very practical, like the software Armory Crate giving access to PC information (temperatures, fan speeds, keyboard backlight settings, profiles, etc.), the list of open applications or even a touchpad. For those accustomed to dual-screen on a desk like us, finding a complete second screen that is also intuitive to use and practical on a laptop is a real pleasure. Of course, the Zephyrus Duo has a main screen with a 15.6″ anti-glare panel, a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a certification Pantone for colors, G-Sync for games and a refresh rate that does not do half measures with its 300 Hz.
The Zephyrus Duo GX551 is an atypical laptop to say the least. Its overall design is nothing original, but it is pleasant and the performance corresponds well to the on-board configuration, designed for video games. On the other hand, the main screen at 300 Hz and especially the second screen make this laptop an ideal companion to optimize its use, if you are already a fan of dual-screen with a tower, the Zephyrus Duo GX550 offers a similar experience.
