Google Chrome: several vulnerabilities considered serious detected, here’s what you need to do to be safe

The giant Google published a security bulletin on Wednesday in which it warned of vulnerabilities affecting its Chrome browser. The company invites its users to update it as soon as possible.

Google is alerting its many users. The Mountain View firm posted a security bulletin online on Wednesday February 28, 2024, aimed at correcting flaws linked to several versions of Google Chrome for Windows, Mac and Linux. The company regularly warns its users to be ready to apply the necessary updates as soon as they become available. Here’s what we know about these vulnerabilities, and how you should keep them out of your devices.

Google warns about Chrome flaws but deliberately remains relatively quiet

For now, Google is content to indicate that several vulnerabilities have been discovered in its Chrome browser. According to the company, they could allow hackers to cause a security problem, the nature of which has deliberately not yet been specified for two of the four breaches, a common attitude at Google.

The two other flaws referenced CVE-2024-1938 and CVE-2024-1939, reported at the beginning of February by ethical hackers who each received $7,000, relate to a vulnerability in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine. However, we know which versions of Chrome and Chrome Extended Stable (the version updated less frequently) are affected by the two breaches:

• Google Chrome versions prior to 122.0.6261.94/.95 for Windows,
• Google Chrome versions prior to 122.0.6261.94 for Linux and Mac

A Chrome update procedure that couldn’t be simpler

Google warns that “ Access to issue details and links may be restricted until a majority of users can apply a patch “. For now, the American firm is content to recommend that users and system administrators update their Chrome browser to the latest version available to date.

Remember that to update Google Chrome on PC, the procedure couldn’t be simpler:

• Click on the three small dots (…) at the top right of the browser,
• Select “Help”, then “About Google Chrome”,
• And you will just have to let the browser install the latest updated version.

Google Chrome versions 122.0.6261.89 for iOS, 122.0.6261.94 for macOS and 122.0.6261.94/.95 for Windows correct these errors.
