Google finally thinks it has found the solution to unwanted emails in Gmail


Google announces the implementation of measures which will severely reduce the number of unwanted messages in Gmail.

Spam is a scourge that affects everyone. It is thus estimated that the average internet user receives around 21 unsolicited emails each day. Messages often sent as part of a vast marketing campaign, but sometimes also with fraudulent aims. The problem is so serious that Google is also trying to protect its users from SMS spam. In a world where almost 30 billion emails are exchanged per day, the fight against spam is more relevant than ever.

According to the Mountain View firm, its incessant efforts and the use of AI allow it to block 99.9% of spam before it arrives in your inbox. However, this is not enough to eradicate the problem. Google therefore announces on its blog the implementation of “ new protections in Gmail, for a safer and less polluted inbox”.

Google fights spam by increasing controls on email senders

Google will impose “to new requirements for shippers who send more than 5,000 messages to Gmail addresses per day. From February 2024individuals or companies that send a large number of emails will need to:

  • authenticate their email address in accordance with established best practices, which “will help close the loopholes exploited by hackers”
  • propose a easy unsubscribebecause “you shouldn’t have to go out of your way to stop receiving unwanted messages, it should just be one click away
  • ensure they are sending desired emails, Gmail will scan the sender reputation through its spam rate, “a first which should reduce unwanted messages in your inbox”.

Until then, to reduce the amount of spam in your mailbox:

  • choose a good password and change it regularly
  • do not use your primary email address on public websites and social media
  • be careful about links you click on in emails, even if they appear to be from legitimate companies
  • never open attachments from unknown senders
