The summer holidays are on in many cantons. This can be felt in both directions on the Gotthard route – the tunnel is currently closed after an accident.

In front of the south portal between Quinto and Gotthard tunnel, the vehicles are currently backed up for seven kilometers. The time lost is almost an hour and a half. TCS recommends traveling north via the A13 and the San Bernardino Tunnel.
Even before the accident, holiday traffic was backing up in front of the Gotthard tunnel heading south. The loss of time in front of the north portal was around one hour, which corresponds to a convoy of vehicles five kilometers long.
If you want to drive south through the Gotthard this weekend, you will have to be patient because of the ongoing summer holidays. And also on the way to the north, motorists have to reckon with traffic jams due to people returning from vacation.
