Götz Otto: That's why German actors are always the bad guys

Götz Otto has leased the role as villain. And even if it initially bothered him, he has since resigned himself to it.

No matter whether in "James Bond", "Schindler's List" or "Iron Sky": The internationally successful actor Götz Otto (52) apparently leased the part as a villain. And since he can no longer get rid of this "stigma", Otto has resigned himself to how he has now betrayed "Bild am Sonntag".

"After my role at James Bond, I felt like I always had to play the bad guy. That already bothered me," the 52-year-old admits. But now he has resigned himself to it. Why do villains' roles like to be cast with German actors? Otto has a simple explanation for this: "It has something to do with our history. Because everyone in this world has probably already heard the name Adolf Hitler, in many places you still think very quickly of Nazi Germany", Otto is certain .

He can be funny too

The NDR comedy series "Da is' ja nix", for which the recordings were recently completed, will soon prove that Götz Otto can also have funny roles. In the times of Corona, it was a strange experience, as the actor explains: "There were people on the set who, out of Corona caution, did nothing but pour a coffee," says Otto. In addition, a Covid-19 officer had meticulously ensured that the distances and the mask requirement were observed.
