This summer, members of the government will be entitled to 17 days of vacation, from August 7 to 24. But the ministers will not be able to leave where they want this summer for the holidays. In a circular, Elisabeth Borne asked them to choose “destination compatible with the exercise of their responsibilities” and “to be reachable every day”.
This Friday, July 29, the government held its last Council of Ministers at the Elysée, before the start of the school year scheduled for August 24. In the meantime, the ministers will also soon be able to take a break, from Sunday August 7, the day the parliamentary session ends. After this date, ministers will have 17 vacation days.
Ministers not in the same boat
But before reaching their destinations, Elisabeth Borne gave them a list of instructions to follow. In a circular to the attention of her government, the Prime Minister simply asked for choices of “destination compatible with the exercise of their responsibilities”.
But not all ministers will be in the same boat. The new ministers will take their marks and take advantage of the summer to get up to speed for the start of the school year. Other ministers like Gérald Darmanin in the Interior, Bruno Le Maire in the Economy or even Catherine Colonna in Foreign Affairs know that their holidays can be suspended at the slightest news item or turning point in the war in Ukraine. Finally, several ministers, less exposed, will be able to breathe more than the others.
Be reachable several times a day
All will be accompanied at least by their security officer for their protection. Last instruction, members of the government must be reachable several times a day.
