OpenAI regularly releases iterations of the Large Language Model (LLM) that powers ChatGPT, including GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo. Sources indicate that the highly anticipated GPT-5 could be released as early as mid-year, contrary to what Sam Altman suggested a few days ago.
According to Business Insider, GPT-5 is expected to be a significant jump over GPT-4 and has been described as “materially better” by early testers. The new LLM will bring improvements that have reportedly impressed testers and enterprise customers, including CEOs who have been shown GPT robots tailored to their business and running GPT-5.
A customer who received a demo of GPT-5 from OpenAI told BI that the company had hinted at new features of GPT-5 that have not yet been released, including its ability to interact with other AI programs that OpenAI is developing. These AI programs, called AI agents by OpenAI, could perform tasks autonomously.
