There was Barbenheimer. Place this week in Toturismo: the duel between the Ninja Turtles and the cars of Gran Turismowhich turned to the advantage of the second on the day of August 9 and counting the previews.
Directed by Neill Blomkamp, the adaptation of the homonymous video game starts with 87,062 spectators on the clock. It’s better, in its genre, than the reboot of Tomb Raider with Alicia Vikander (58,042 admissions in 2018), but worse than Uncharted with Tom Holland (186,499 in 2022). And it is also the second best start for Neill Blomkamp in France, behind the 114,122 entries for District 9 in 2009.
The feature film is slightly ahead of the 79,117 tickets torn for Ninja Turtles: Teenage Yearsa beautifully animated reboot of the adventures of the Scale Knights by Jeff Rowe, under the supervision of Seth Rogen.
This is the third best start in the history of the franchise in cinema (behind the two feature films produced by Michael Bay and released in 2014 and 2016).
If cars lead the dance, it is a train that we find on the third step of the podium: the one that serves as a theater for the adventures of We apologize for the inconvenience. With nearly 20,000 admissions, the comedy carried by Artus and Elsa Zylberstein offers Belgian director Olivier van Hoofstadt his second best start, far ahead of Dikkenek’s 7,312.
We then find another comedy, a bit more dramatic: A master stroke. It is certainly the worst start to the career of its director Rémi Bezançon, whose record remains Le Mystère Henri Pick. But it is also his smallest release, with “only” 221 copies. Word of mouth and the chemistry of the duo Vincent Macaigne – Bouli Lanners can, however, help him achieve a good score over time.
Finally, note the fine performance of The Royal Way, a drama by Frédéric Mermoud against a background of a scientific preparatory class, which manages to attract 5,420 spectators for its first day. Despite a subject that one would imagine more calibrated for the start of the school year.
