The cult film “Grease” gets a series. The streaming service Paramount + announces a spin-off that will start four years before the film.

The “Pink Ladies” come back to the TV screen. The lively girl troupe from the 70-year-old musical film “Grease” is getting its own little series. According to the industry magazine “Deadline” the US streaming service Paramount + is working on a season with ten episodes around the characters Rizzo, Frenchy, Marty and Jan.

The spin-off “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” is set to play four years before the cult film from 1978. “Before rock ‘n’ roll reigned, before the T-Birds were the coolest in school, four annoyed, outcast girls dared to have fun on their own terms, creating a moral panic that Rydell High was for will always change “, says the prequel of the well-known film with John Travolta (67) and Olivia Newton-John (72).

The Paramount + series is said to contain new figures. In 1978 Stockard Channing (77), Didi Conn (70), Dinah Manoff (65) and Jamie Donnelly (74) played the “Pink Ladies”. A release date for the spin-off is not yet known. It was originally supposed to appear on HBO Max under the title “Grease: Rydell High”. However, the streaming service struck the series from its list again.
