You have two children, are “half separated” – or are you completely? Musician Grimes and tech star Elon Musk are always good for a surprise.
The celebrity couple Grimes (33) and Elon Musk (50) is always good for a surprise. There have even been two in the last few hours: the musician and the Tesla founder have become parents again – and have apparently separated again. The love story of the two stars seems to remain complicated.
The two first appeared together at the 2018 Met Gala. They went on to have two children: son X Æ A-12 Musk (aka “X”) in May 2020 and daughter Exa Dark Sideræl Musk (aka “Y”) in December 2021. When asked about their relationship status, Grimes just told Vanity Fairthat there is no right word for it.
The singer explained, “I would probably call him my boyfriend,” but it’s inconsistent. “We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time. We just have our own thing going on and I don’t expect other people to understand it.” It’s the best, she explained: “We just have to be free.” After the post appeared on March 10th, Grimes then tweeted: “Me and E ‘broke up’ since the writing of this article, haha.”
Up and down since 2018
Grimes and Elon Musk reportedly became close because they share a penchant for jokes about artificial intelligence. Their shared interest in space and technology is intended to connect them. Musk has apparently also been a fan of Grimes’ music for a long time. In March 2018 he posted a link to the music video for her single “Venus Fly”, a collaboration with Janelle Monaé (36), and praised the artistic quality of the work.
At the beginning of 2018, US media speculated about a relationship for the first time – and the rumor mill was probably not wrong: In May 2018, Grimes and Musk surprised with a joint glamor appearance: they made their relationship public at the Met Gala. That way they got the most attention. The pair walked the red carpet together in bespoke outfits of their own design.
Pregnancy 2020
In early 2019, Grimes spoke in an interview with the “Wall Street Journal” for the first time about her relationship and love for Elon Musk. Then, in January 2020, the musician shared a milestone in their relationship with the world. She announced her pregnancy by posting a topless selfie on Instagram – an ultrasound image of the baby could be seen on her stomach.
On May 4, 2020, the time had come: Elon Musk and Grimes became parents for the first time. Musk tweeted the name of their son and thus caused questioning faces: X Æ A-12 Musk is this. Since the state of California doesn’t allow numbers in maiden names, they later had to change it to X Æ A-XII Musk.
Half or completely separated?
At the end of July 2020, the first rumors about problems in the relationship appeared. Shortly thereafter, the entrepreneur explained in the “New York Times”.that he was happy with Grimes. A joint TV appearance followed in May 2021: Musk moderated an episode of the show “Saturday Night Live”. His girlfriend appeared in a skit with him.
Only a few months later, in September 2021, there will be a separation – at least half. Musk said “Page Six” back thenthat he and Grimes are “semi-separated” after more than three years of dating. However, he made it clear that they “still love each other, see each other often and get along well”, especially when it comes to their child. His work at SpaceX and Tesla requires him to be primarily in Texas or traveling abroad, Musk said, while Grimes works primarily in Los Angeles. “She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the next room.”
What nobody knew and only now became known: The two became parents again in December 2021. The second child, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, was born via surrogate, as reported by Vanity Fair. The couple would even plan to have more children. “We’ve always wanted at least three or four,” Grimes said. Will that still happen? After the article was published, the singer posted the tweet announcing the “repeat” separation… Nothing is impossible with this couple!
