VIENNA (Reuters) – Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said he was ready on Monday to hold talks in Ukraine and Russia this week to set up a zone of protection around the Ukrainian nuclear power plant of Zaporizhya, controlled by the Russian army.
The boss of the IAEA continues to demand the establishment of such a zone around the site in order to preserve it from fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
“There is a project on the table to do this. Last week I had the opportunity to start consultations with Ukraine and with the Russian Federation (…) and I am ready to continue these consultations in the two countries this week,” Rafael Grossi told a meeting of IAEA member states.
