Guillaume Canet: after Asterix, he faces a devastating disaster in this apocalyptic trailer!

After telling us the story of an invasion of locusts in La Nuée in 2021, director Just Philippot is back with a new fantasy-tinged drama: Acide.

The filmmaker explores again the question of rurality, but also of ecological disaster and climatic catastrophe while a young woman will face a kind of apocalypse which falls on France. A foretaste of a collapse more and more evoked by cinema and series.

The story follows 15-year-old Selma. The teenager grew up between her two separated parents, Michal and Élise. Clouds of acid and devastating rain descend on France. In a world that will soon sink, this fractured family will have to unite to face this climatic catastrophe and try to escape it.

Note that Acide is first and foremost a short film that Just Philippot made 5 years ago. In 2013, the director moved from Paris to Tours, where he did a lot of image education with young audiences. At the same time, the artist has developed several very different projects, of which Gildas has something to tell us, an intimate documentary about his polyhandicapped brother.

Strengthened by this relationship with the cultural institutions of the Center Val de Loire region, Just joined a genre film residency partly financed by Ciclic, the cinema agency in the Center region. It was there that he wrote the short film Acide. “Winning effect or stroke of luck, I arrived at a time when French cinema, no doubt inspired by the success of series and the upheaval linked to the arrival of platforms, was looking for new creations, more hybrid, more even to seek out all types of audiences”explains the director.

Thanks to the success of this short film, Just Philippot switched to feature film with La Nuée, a project also from the same residency. “I made this first film with the desire to distance myself as much as possible from American cinema to offer a singular climate, capable of taking the viewer into a troubled, unstable, but still extremely realistic danger zone.”

Thanks to the company Bonne Pioche Cinéma, the director was then able to develop the Acide feature film in parallel. “La Nuée, my first feature film, was a great first experience and allowed me to nurture new directing ambitions for Acide.”

Headlining the feature film, alongside Laetitia Dosch and Patience Munchenbach, Guillaume Canet had announced a “very strong movie” on his Instagram account last May, when the work was selected for the Séance de Minuit in Cannes. “I loved playing in this film which is truly sublime, strong, current and important. Made by a great filmmaker!”had underlined the actor.

Acid will land in theaters on September 20.
