Guirassy with goal number 16 of the season
Stuttgart’s brilliant storm duo strikes again

One has 16 goals this season, the other 8 goals: VfB Stuttgart’s attack duo is in a brilliant mood and proves that against Werder Bremen. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team continues to play happily in the top group – and is easily preparing for a cracker in the DFB Cup against BVB.
With concentrated offensive power, VfB Stuttgart continued its remarkable season in the Bundesliga. In the more than deserved 2-0 (1-0) against Werder Bremen, who were overwhelmed at times, coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s enthusiastic team only had to accept one criticism: that there were no more goals than those from Deniz Undav (17th) and Serhou Guirassy (74th, penalty kick).
As announced, Hoeneß had called his two top scorers Guirassy (now 16 goals) and Undav (now 8) into the starting eleven together for the first time and placed Chris Führich and Silas alongside them. It was a quartet that Bremen had a lot of trouble with right from the start: VfB, who maintained their third place in the table, combined quickly through the opposing half – it was nice to see.
In Stuttgart’s offensive whirlwind, Werder lost track of things several times, for the first time decisively when Undav scored the opening goal. The former Bremen youth player dusted off in the style of a goalscorer after goalkeeper Michael Zetterer didn’t cut a good figure. Luckily for the guests, things didn’t get worse shortly afterwards: Guirassy was offside when he scored (21′).
Bremer with too many mistakes
The best news for Werder: VfB didn’t make enough of their many chances – the game could have been decided for the stormy Swabians at halftime. But Bremen knew that only one good move would be enough to get back into the game. They had their first opportunity to do so through Rafael Borré, but his shot was just blocked (35′).
The Bremen team also made too many mistakes in the build-up of the game against the aggressive Stuttgart team to seriously embarrass the hosts. Werder also benefited in the second half from VfB’s inability to extend their lead. Guirassy, for example, put the ball past the far corner from close range after a wonderful assist from the very good Silas (55th).
After 70 minutes, Hoeneß ended the interaction between Guirassy and Undav by replacing the goalscorer to make it 1-0. What wasn’t too bad: with his seventh shot on goal, Guirassy put the lid on it. Niklas Stark had previously fouled Guirassy. And Zetterer made a bad pass.
