Hair: this is what can happen if you wash it in too hot water: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

We know all the virtues of very cold showers: a stimulation of blood circulation, a toning effect on the tissues and even an action on the shine of the hair. But what about showers a little too hot ? Asked by the American magazine Pace, dermatologist Shari Marchbein answered this question.

In this interview, the dermatologist explains that very hot showers (above 35 ° C) can have an impact on the quality of the skin and scalp. Above a certain temperature, water weakens the hydrolipidic film and the sebum of the scalp. Without these protective films, the skin and hair can be drier and rougher as the days go by. "Imagine an inflamed scalp trying to grow small plants in lava, it's almost impossible to have happy, healthy hair in these conditions! " explains the dermatologist.

But that's not all, Shari Marchbein explains that too hot water can also have an impact on the appearance of the hair. "If the water is too hot, it prevents us from rinsing the shampoo, conditioner or mask, which can affect the quality and texture of the hair ". In short, washing your hair with too hot water you risk ending up with product residues on the lengths. The result: flatter hair and roots that regrow faster!

So what is the ideal temperature? The dermatologist explains that a very hot shower should not not exceed 5 minutes. Ideally: take lukewarm showers, with a temperature between 25 ° C and 30 ° C.
