half-groups, canceled exams … what will change in high schools

Jean-Michel Blanquer announced a strengthening of the health protocol in high schools, after receiving numerous complaints from teachers and students in the face of overcrowded classes.

Less than a week after the start of the school year, the health protocol is reinforced in high school. Thursday, November 5, Jean-Michel Blanquer indeed announced a series of new measures to be applied in these schools. One way for the government to limit the transmission of the coronavirus, but also to respond to complaints from teachers. Several unions have indeed called a strike from November 10, to denounce an insufficient and inapplicable health protocol.

Distance and half-group courses

The Minister of National Education has thus affirmed that distance learning will once again be possible for high school students … provided that they spend at least 50% of their teaching time face to face. "It is important that each student is present at least half of the school time", wrote Jean-Michel Blanquer to the teachers, in a letter also delivered to the AFP.

A high school student can therefore have, for example, lessons in class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and at home on Tuesday and Thursday. It will be up to the schools to decide on the modalities. The goal is to facilitate the reception of students, in half-groups to avoid overcrowded classes and to respect physical distancing.
