Harley-Davidson e-bikes already exist. The S1 Mosh/Tribute in particular attracted a lot of attention last year. The brand’s first e-mountain bike, the Bash/MTN, is now based on the same frame. Already an e-bike highlight of the year for us.
Because Serial 1 is taking a very unusual approach, marketing the e-mountain bike without suspension or gears. The more chunky Michelin E-Wild tires alone and a few other, rather small details should make it fit for the forest and bike park. In the bike park, without gears and without suspension?

That’s right – Serial 1 highlights the omission of gears and suspension as a benefit. The brand advertises the 22.1 kilogram E-MTB according to the motto “Less is more”. Despite the lack of the usual components for a mountain bike, the E-MTB just flies over hill and dale in the marketing images, so that the US magazine Electrek rightly asks: Is there helium in the frame?
No matter how high you fly – the spring-loaded seat post absorbs your impact as much as possible. The benefits of Gates’ virtually maintenance-free belt drive are well known. But there are also disadvantages: there is no derailleur gear system. This e-mountain bike has only one gear.
So that you can still climb every mountain, you need a lot of torque. The centrally installed Brose S Mag motor with 90 Newton meters delivers this in abundance. The removable battery has a capacity of 530 watt hours.
price and availability
The Harley bike is part of Serial 1’s “Select Series”. This means that it will initially be available in a limited edition of 1,050 units. Only half of these are intended for the European market. The model has not yet appeared on the German website of the brand.
The price is 3,999 US dollars (3,750 euros). This means that the e-bike is not a bargain, but compared to other e-bike innovations it is absolutely within limits, especially with regard to the limitation.
