Harry Potter’s birthday is on July 31st. Die-hard Hogwarts fans will find tips for a magical celebration here – including cocktails.

On July 31st, a trip to the magical world of Hogwarts is a must, because: Harry Potter is celebrating his birthday. It is no accident that the wizard was born on this day. Finally, its creator, Joanne K. Rowling, 56, was born on July 31st. The question arises, how passionate fans of witchcraft and wizardry can celebrate Harry Potter’s big day? Here are some suggestions:

Cocktails à la Hogsmeade

“Without butter beer there is no magic world”, thinks food blogger Patrick Rosenthal, who has put together a few Hogsmeade-typical cocktail recipes in his latest book “The unofficial Harry Potter cocktail book” (Riva Verlag). Starting with a butterbeer cocktail over Dumbledore’s lemon shower to the Death Eater Long Island Ice Tea.

Butterbeer Cocktail

Ingredients for a glass: 45 ml butterscotch syrup, 45 ml rum, 250 ml malt beer, whipped cream (optional)

Preparation: Mix the butterscotch syrup and rum and pour into a tall glass. Pour malt beer on top. If you like, you can top the cocktail with cream. Tip: For little magicians you can simply leave out the rum.

Dumbledore’s lemon shower

Ingredients for a glass: crushed ice, 20 ml gin, 10 ml lemon juice (freshly squeezed), 5 ml honey syrup, 1 packet of lemon powder

Preparation: Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with the ice, add the gin, lemon juice and syrup and shake vigorously. Dip the edge of a glass into the water and then dip into the effervescent powder. Pour in the cocktail and then pour in a little more effervescent powder – it really tingles! Tip: You can make the honey syrup yourself: put water and honey in equal parts in a saucepan and heat while stirring until the honey has completely dissolved.

Death Eater Long Island Ice Tea

Ingredients for a glass: ice cubes, 10 ml vodka, 10 ml gin, 10 ml white tequila, 5 ml orange liqueur, 2 teaspoons lemon juice, cola to pour on

Preparation: Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add vodka, gin, tequila, orange liqueur and lemon juice and shake vigorously. Pour into a glass filled with ice cubes and pour over cola.

Game night with Harry and his friends

The homemade cocktails can be enjoyed with a game of parlor. And why not include the magical world of Hogwarts here as well? In “Harry Potter – The Battle for Hogwarts” up to four players can accompany Harry, Hermione, Neville and Ron in seven stages as they grow up. Together the friends compete against their enemies and learn to defend their school against bad guys with magic spells. If you are in the mood for classics such as “Trivial Pursuit” or “Cluedo”, you can also get hold of the games in the Harry Potter version.

Off to the theater!

Anyone who has internalized the eight-part film series can look forward to new adventures from Harry, Ron and Hermione in the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”. 19 years after the trio saved the world of wizards from Lord Voldemort, the three friends face another battle against the dark. Harry lives with his wife Ginny and they have three children. Harry works in the Ministry of Magic – and has his problems especially with his son Albus Severus, who is just coming to Hogwarts. Albus and his new friend Scorpius Malfoy are messing up the magical world – and bringing back dark forces.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” had its world premiere in 2016 in London, and the play has enjoyed great success since then. In Germany, the play is currently scheduled to take place on December 5th in Hamburg’s Mehr! Theater celebrate its premiere. The start was originally planned for March 2020, but the premiere party had to be postponed several times due to the corona pandemic.

New plans for cinema and TV

Since January 2021, the streaming service HBO Max has also been working on a live-action TV series about the students at the Hogwarts Magic Boarding School. However, those responsible are still reluctant to give precise details, as the project is in “a very early phase”. More tangible information is already available for the spin-off sequel “Fantastic Beasts 3”, in which stars such as Jude Law (48), Eddie Redmayne (39) and Mads Mikkelsen (55) will be seen. The cinema release is planned for July 2022. Whether this date can be kept or fans may have to wait longer is currently not known due to Corona postponements.

Replenishment from JK Rowling

For those who can’t get enough of JK Rowling’s fantasy world, there is also a supply: the author completed an old children’s book in the corona pandemic. “The Ickabog” should make children happy during the lockdown. Basically, the work has nothing to do with the “Harry Potter” universe.
