JK Rowling missed this year’s Harry Potter reunion. Why? The author revealed this in an interview.
The “Harry Potter” stars celebrated a reunion in January 2022 on HBO Max. However, author JK Rowling (57) was not there. Why was she missing from the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special? The writer has now said in an interview with the British radio station “Virgin”.
“I thought it was more about the movies”
“I was asked if I wanted to take part and I decided against it,” she told moderator Graham Norton (59). as can be heard in a YouTube video. “I thought it was more about the movies than the books, rightly so. That’s what the anniversary was about.” Nobody told her not to do it. “I was asked to do it and I decided not to,” she added.
JK Rowling didn’t appear in person on the special, but parts of an interview were shown. In it, the author explains how difficult it was to find the right actor to play Harry Potter.
Rowling came under fire in June 2020 when she appeared to support anti-transgender views in a series of tweets. Though she denied that her views on feminism are transphobic, she reiterated her controversial stances in a lengthy essay, which she published on her website. The “Harry Potter” stars Daniel Radcliffe (33), Emma Watson (32) and Rupert Grint (34) spoke out against Rowling’s statements.

Rowling also spoke about her relationship with social media in an interview with Graham Norton. Earlier this month she received a death threat. The writer published a statement via Twitter in which she condemned the knife attack on Salman Rushdie (75) and expressed her horror. However, one of the commenters on the post threatened Rowling, saying, “Don’t worry, you’re next.”
The situation is not completely new for the 57-year-old. As early as autumn 2021, she announced that she had received many death threats. “I try to behave online the way I want others to behave. I’ve never threatened anyone,” she said now. “Social media can be a lot of fun and I love the bar fight aspect.” However, they have a love-hate relationship with them.
