A rope of two mountaineers unscrewed for an undetermined reason, Saturday, during an ascent on the Tourette, in the Massif des Bornes, report our colleagues from Dauphiné Libéré.
A man and a woman, aged around 30, were moving on an icefall, on the north face of the Col du Varo, when they fell more than 500 meters.
The man could not be resuscitated by the emergency services, which intervened quickly. He was declared deceased.
The woman was taken care of in a state of absolute emergency victim of a cranial traumatism. Unconscious, she was quickly airlifted to Annecy hospital.
The alert was given at 2:10 p.m. by two other mountaineers who witnessed the fall of the rope, while they themselves were getting ready.
The Annecy prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation.
