The first climate-neutral holiday region, this is the goal the Katschberg wants to achieve. The aim is to achieve this with the “Klimaberg” initiative, in which many hotels voluntarily undertake to save resources and focus on sustainability. The Hotel Das KATSCHBERG, which was completely revitalized in 2020, is a prime example of sustainable holidays. They even have their own climate food here. The ambitious goal of being able to offer CO2-neutral holidays on the Katschberg should be implemented by 2030. But measures are already being taken to save as much of the climate-damaging carbon dioxide as possible and to conserve existing resources. One component is “climate earth”, it binds CO2 so efficiently that it is stored there for 1000 years. It is used on the Katschberg, among other things, for the greening of flat roofs or raised beds. And the hotel businesses are also taking numerous measures: electricity, heating and water consumption are being optimized. The focus is on regional and seasonal foods.
The Hotel Das KATSCHBERG, among other things, shows that the CO2 footprint can remain small even on vacation. It was extensively renovated in 2020 and is largely made of wood. The flat roofs were covered with climate earth and greened. Rainwater is used to flush toilets and plastic is avoided where possible.
