Of course it was essential! The Tokyo start-up Tsubame Industries will make the wildest dreams of robot fans come true. But be careful: who says giant machine, also says colossal price.
It is a young Japanese who is at the origin of the ARCHAX, a robot directly inspired by the very first animated series of the franchise Gundam. With its 4.5 meters high and 3.5 tonnes, it will not go unnoticed and will not find its place in every living room.
The robot will be presented at the Japan Mobility Show at the end of the month, but its creator has already spoken about the reasons which led him to build this extraordinary behemoth.
The Cybertruck put back in its place
“ I wanted to create something that said “This is Japan” “, said Ryo Yoshida, 25 years old and head of Tsubame Industries. Indeed, according to this very inspired engineer, the country of the Rising Sun is “ very good at animation, games, robots and cars “, so what could be better than robots to bring it all together?
The ARCHAX, which takes its name from an avian dinosaur, Archeopteryx, is not a simple giant figurine. This is a full-fledged robot with two modes. The first, called “ robot », will be stationary and will allow him to stand upright to his full height. The second, called “ vehicle ”, will give the user the ability to move it at a speed of up to 10 km/h.
The machine is equipped with a cockpit on its chest, from which the pilot can also operate his arms and hands using joysticks. To see what is happening around it, the machine will be equipped with cameras whose images will be transmitted to the driver on screens.
A machine destined to go into space?
It is not certain that all collectors will be able to afford the ARCHAX, since they will have to pay the tidy sum of 3 million dollars to take it home. Even more, the price is likely to increase quickly, because Tsubame Industries only plans to build 5 examples.
However, Yoshida’s ambitions do not stop there. He hopes his robot and future variants could one day be used for disaster relief operations or in the space industry. Quite a program for someone who originally specialized in the design of myoelectric hand prostheses, a sector that continues to innovate.
