BMW presents at the CES in Las Vegas a concept car capable of adopting many colors.

And the palette is wide, since no less than 32 colors are available with this creation.

i Vision Dee, the car of all inspirations

BMW should surprise us again this year at CES in Las Vegas. After its concept car last year iX Flow, the first car to be able to change color in black, white or gray, the manufacturer continues on the same path by greatly increasing the options.

Its concept car i Vision Dee, which benefits from a head-up display over the entire length of the windshield, thus embeds E Ink technology, which is found in particular in e-readers or connected watches. And thanks to it, the driver can not only change the color of the whole car with one of the 32 available shades, but also choose a particular color for each part of the vehicle.

Indeed, the body of i Vision Dee is lined with 240 segments that can each be controlled individually. ” This allows an almost endless variety of patterns to be generated and varied in seconds. BMW explains enthusiastically.

An electrically sensitive coating

To achieve this result, the vehicle is covered with a coating containing tiny microcapsules which, by reacting to an electrical impulse, change pigmentation. A captivating result, which the German manufacturer claims for the moment to be the only one to be able to present.

This coating, called “Prism 3″, also requires very little energy to operate, since in the words of the company itself: ” Power is only used when screens are updated; no power is consumed once the color is displayed “. It would thus be suitable for all types of vehicles, both petrol and electric.

The German auto giant has not yet communicated on the potential mass production of this extremely futuristic option. It is currently only an R&D project, led by Australian engineer Stella Clarke.
