The now ex-spokesperson Olivier Véran said on Friday that he was “looking forward to going further” and wanted to “continue to confront the extreme right”, while his name was mentioned to lead the majority list in the European elections.

Replaced in the government by Prisca Thevenot, the now ex-spokesperson Olivier Véran affirmed on Friday that he was “looking forward to going further” and wanted to “continue to confront the extreme right”, while his name is mentioned to lead the list of the majority in the European elections. “I now find full freedom of speech, I will use it,” declared Olivier Véran during the transfer of power to the ministry, wishing “long life and full success” to the new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal “and to his government”.

“I will do it tirelessly, you can count on me”

Absent from the first list of ministers announced Thursday evening, Olivier Véran will also not be in that of the delegated ministers expected in the coming days. “I will become a deputy again in a few weeks for my magnificent urban and mountainous constituency of Grenoble,” he said. But “the French are pushing us to go further and I can’t wait to go further”, he added, insisting on his desire to “continue to confront populism and the extreme right, which are a poison for our country.”

“I will do it tirelessly, you can count on me,” he continued, concluding his speech with a “see you soon” which leaves open the door to a European candidacy for the June elections.

His name is in fact circulating to take the head of the Macronist list, so far promised to former MEP Stéphane Séjourné, promoted to Minister of Foreign Affairs.
