Hawkeye on Disney +: is a season 2 possible?

Warning, spoilers. It is advisable to have seen the Hawkeye series before continuing to read this article.

Composed of six episodes, Hawkeye is the latest series from Marvel Studios to date on Disney +. She tells how Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) is forced to take under his wing Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), a young talented archer, who dreams of becoming a superheroine. The two heroes will understand as their adventures progress that their destinies are linked.

Clint’s past resurfaces, especially the Ronin costume, and the Avenger is threatened by Wilson Fisk alias The Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio back in the role since Marvel’s Daredevil), Maya Lopez alias Echo (Alaqua Cox) but also Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), sister of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson). For her part, Kate Bishop understands that her mother Eleanor (Vera Farmiga) has been working for Le Caïd since her father’s death.

In the finale of Hawkeye, several battles are played out, between action and emotion, and lead to a true happy end of Christmas. Eleanor is arrested by the police for being behind the murder of Armand Duquesne, Yelena forgives Clint for the death of her sister, and Echo gets rid (maybe) of the Kingpin. Kate is greeted at the Bartons’ house for the holidays with dog Lucky and we learn that Laura (Linda Cardellini) is a former SHIELD agent.

Is a season 2 possible?

Unlike Loki, Hawkeye’s credits didn’t announce a second season. The series should therefore be considered a mini-series, like WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Especially since she has fulfilled her part of the contract, namely to introduce the character of Kate Bishop, who announces herself as the heiress of Clint Barton in the costume of Hawkeye.

By the way, Hawkeye is already entitled to an Echo-centric spin-off, so it seems unlikely the series will get a second season just yet. Kate Bishop could very well be appearing in Echo, just like Clint Barton, but also The Kingpin.

Indeed, despite what the Hawkeye finale suggests, The Kingpin could very well have survived. In the comics, Echo shoots Wilson Fisk but the latter survives and goes blind. Marvel Studios could very well go in that direction and bring back this much loved antagonist with fans, especially since he could also meet Spider-Man (Tom Holland) in the future or see Daredevil (Charlie Cox) again, now canon in the MCU. .

The Young Avengers on the way?

Although Hawkeye is unlikely to continue with a season 2, as Disney and Marvel have yet to communicate on the subject, potential new episodes could simply follow Kate Bishop and the rest of her apprenticeship. She could very well team up with Jack Dusquesne (Tony Dalton), on his way to becoming Swordman with his foil and sword skills demonstrated in the series finale.

A new season could also set up the Young Avengers team with Kate Bishop as Hawkeye, Iron Lad, the young version of Kang (Jonathan Majors, soon in Quantumania), Patriot, the grandson of the black Captain America (Elijah Richardson, introduced in Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Cassie Lang, daughter of Ant-Man (Kathryn Newton, soon in Quantumania), Wiccan and Speed, sons of Wanda (Julian Hilliard and Jett Klyne, introduced in WandaVision), Hulkling, Kid Loki (Jack Veal, introduced in Loki) and Miss America (Xochitl Gomez, soon in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).

New episodes could also focus on the West Coast Avengers that Clint could form, given that in the comics his wife was one of them. In any case, Clint is not ready to hang up his bow, on television or in the cinema, since his interpreter Jeremy Renner confided to the New York Times that he was up for playing Hawkeye for a long time: “I can do this for another ten years. Until I don’t fit in that damn costume anymore. I plan to keep going until I’m told to stop.”
