Pollen flight forecast for the weekend

Anyone who has hay fever will have noticed – the season is picking up speed. At the weekend we should get spring-like temperatures. This is nice, but it is a challenge for allergy sufferers. We could experience the first real hay fever weekend.

The German Weather Service provides an overview of the most common pollen. Fly on Saturday:

  • Alder: Low in the northwest, medium in the southeast
  • Hasel: Low to medium nationwide, medium in the south
  • Esche: So far none to little in northern Germany, little towards Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia

Allergy sufferers can breathe easy against birch, grass, ambrosia, rye and mugwort. No pollen count has been predicted for the weekend – hay fever patients have a little more time here and the first rays of the sun can be enjoyed with confidence.

Risk of corona from hay fever?

Anyone suffering from hay fever knows the feeling: if you run your nose, you quickly get a cold on top of it. But is a hay fever patient more susceptible to the corona virus? Many people are currently asking themselves this question – because the hay fever season has already begun in Germany.

"No, you are not", is the clear answer of the general practitioner Dr. Michael Hill. Hay fever is currently not associated with an increased risk of developing Covid-19.

Caution regarding the new corona virus is particularly important in the elderly or those with previous illnesses. Chronic respiratory diseases, such as COPD, are considered a risk factor for a more severe course of Covid-19. Asthma patients should, according to the "pulmonologists on the net", make sure that they are well medicated.
