‘He has an agreement with another club’: President Laporta explains why Ousmane Dembélé didn’t want to leave Barcelona

Ousmane Dembélé will end the season with the season with FC Barcelona and will go until the end of his contract which ends in June. Despite offers from several clubs at the end of the transfer window, the tricolor international refused to leave the Catalan formation, because he would already have “an agreement with another club”, according to president Joan Laporta.

This winter, Barça tried to get rid of the 2018 world champion to recover transfer compensation and avoid seeing him go free in less than six months. But he didn’t succeed. Because even if Dembélé was brandished the threat of no longer playing by the end of the season, after having rejected all the extension offers proposed by the club, he preferred to stay in Spain.

“Dembélé’s situation is difficult to understand,” commented Joan Laporta, claiming to have received offers from at least two clubs in recent days. “We are very surprised that he did not accept this and the last one came from an English club,” said the Barcelona president. “He preferred to stay here, it’s not good, neither for him nor for the club,” he added.

And if Ousmane Dembélé, free to join the club of his choice since January 1, did not wish to leave, it is because he would have found his future destination, without it being known yet. “We think he has an agreement with another club, that’s what we were told,” said Joan Laporte.

This should not help the situation of the former Rennais who could be sidelined until the end of the season and no longer wear the Blaugrana jersey.
