An American YouTuber has managed the feat of traveling several thousand kilometers in a Tesla without going through the charging box.

Finally, more exactly, he did not need the Supercharger terminals to power his vehicle. And this, thanks to small house corrections!

A Tesla Model S equipped with generators

How can you afford a road trip in an electric car without having to regularly stop at a charging station? This is a question to which Matt Mikka, behind the YouTube channel Warped Perceptionwanted to answer in a video titled “Tesla Wireless”.

The YouTuber presents the vehicle that allowed him to travel the United States for a week over 2,800 kilometers, and without ever having to stop! For this, he tampered with his Tesla Model S quite a bit, which he equipped with a 400cc single-cylinder engine.3 making nearly 13 horsepower. The latter is accompanied by generators.

As a result of the races, this Tesla hybrid was able to drive non-stop for several days, and without ever having to meet a terminal.

Lots of noise for little speed

A homemade solution that obviously has negative sides. Admittedly, this transformed hybrid vehicle recharged itself once the engine was switched off, especially in the evening when it was parked in the parking lot of a hotel. The problem is that this operation caused significant noise pollution!

And that’s not the only annoyance caused by the experimental vehicle. With such a small engine, the Model S could not reach particularly high speeds. To the point where the driver was part of this very rare category of individuals arrested by the police for having driven… too slowly! A number of breaks on the roadside were also necessary to urgently recharge the vehicle’s batteries, which fell to 2%…

In short, the experience is interesting, but still far from perfect. And yet, the creator of the channel Warped Perception concluded that the test was generally positive, since he now wants to perfect this car in order to further improve its autonomy record.
