Head-on accident – Dozing off at the wheel: Four injured in hospital

A brief moment of inattention was enough to cause a serious accident. In the Mühlviertel this meant microsleep behind the wheel. In the end, four inmates, some of whom were seriously injured, had to be taken to hospitals in Linz.

A 60-year-old from St. Marin im Mühlkreis was driving his car on the B127, Rohrbacher Straße from Ottensheim towards Walding on Sunday around 1:10 p.m. Suddenly his eyes closed and because of microsleep he ended up on the left side of the road. There, an oncoming 80-year-old driver from Traun had no chance of preventing the accident. The 60-year-old’s car came to a stop on the road embankment. Rescue flight to the hospital The 60-year-old was taken to the Kepler University Hospital with injuries of an unspecified degree. His 72-year-old passenger was flown by rescue helicopter to Kepler University Hospital with serious injuries. The 80-year-old was also seriously injured and taken to the UKH Linz by emergency doctor; Her 29-year-old passenger was also taken to the UKH Linz.
