Healthy alternative – what are natural peels really good for?

Conventional detergents are not always the most environmentally friendly option. Some people rely on soap nuts. But are they really suitable for washing clothes? We’ve made the test.

Soapnuts come from the so-called soapnut tree. This is native to Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean, and belongs to the genus of the soap tree family. The fruit has been used for washing for thousands of years.

For washing, the dried, nut-like fruit casings are placed in a cotton sack for washing in the drum. They are very suitable for washes at temperatures of up to 40 ° Celsius.

So soapnuts are better for people and the environment

  • Soapnuts have no textile bleaching effect and do not release any odorous substances into the laundry
  • They are manufactured without chemical processes and are therefore an ecological alternative to normal detergents
  • Soapnuts are extremely skin-friendly and are therefore very suitable for people with neurodermatitis
  • The washing-active substances in the soap nut are quickly biodegradable
  • The remains of the soapnut can be composted very well – so there is no waste

Try it! If the smell of the washed laundry is too “bland” for you, you can add essential oils to the nuts in the sack. These give the laundry a fine fragrance.
