Helldivers 2: a new unpleasant obligation for PC players, the fault of PlayStation

So far, Helldiverse 2 was well received by a large majority of players since its launch last January on PS5 and PC (Steam), with a model live service quite respectful, not calling on FOMO beyond the fact that its world of conflicts continues to evolve. Just yesterday we discovered the next Premium War Bond baptized Patriots of the cold. However, it was without counting on a message posted early this morning on the game page in the store Valve. As the saying goes, hell is paved with good intentionsbut it was not well received if we are to believe the first returns on Twitter / X.

Indeed, until now it was possible to play Helldiverse 2 on Steam by simply logging into your account, nothing could be more normal. Well, a constraint will be imposed in the coming days to new players then within a few weeks to the entire community, namely have to link an account PlayStation Network to play. Yes, it’s quite a cold shower for the PC community which doesn’t necessarily want to use the ecosystem of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The excuse of security and technical problems at launch also seems a bit big. Furthermore, as people have pointed out, THE PSN is not available in some countries. This undoubtedly concerns a minority of players, but if they exist, they will no longer have access to the game they purchased due to this change.

Here is the translation of the message in question:

To the attention of Helldivers,

Due to technical issues with the launch of Helldivers 2, we have allowed the requirements for linking Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. This grace period will now expire. See details below in this post.

Account linking plays a vital role in protecting our players and upholding the safety and security values provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is our primary way of protecting players from grievance and abuse by allowing players who engage in this type of behavior to be banned. This also gives players who have been banned the right to appeal.

So, Starting May 6, all new Helldivers 2 players on Steam will need to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. Current players on Steam will start to see mandatory login from May 30 and must have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4. PlayStation Network accounts are free and easy to set up using this link https://www.playstation.com/support/account/create-account-for-psn/

We understand that while this may be inconvenient for some of you, this step will help us continue to build a community that you are all proud to be a part of.

Many thanks for your continued support of Helldivers 2!

Sony Interactive Entertainment

With the arrival of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut which will be the first game from the firm offering Trophies and a brand interface on computers, we can easily imagine that this kind of obligation could become a prerequisite in the future. Regardless, this should make PC gamers think twice before purchasing a game PlayStation in the future.

Helldiverse 2 is sold €35.99 at Gamesplanet if this prerequisite does not bother you. On PS5, there is no choice anyway and this version is currently sold for €34.02 on Amazon And at the house of Cdiscount.
