Hello Netzwelt: Top German footballer falls for AI beauty

TECHNOLOGY

Not everything that glitters is real – a professional footballer who fell for AI also noticed this week. Hello Netzwelt – here are the best stories of the week.

Oh, it’s not real? German footballer falls for a pretty AI woman. Oh, they didn’t have an accident? The craziest emergency calls of the year. Also: The end of Tetris and Teslas as driving school cars. Still wildly wishing you a Happy New Year, Michael welcomes you to the first news show of 2024 on behalf of the entire team.

New year, new bridge day game. Goal: To get the most out of free time with as little vacation days as possible. Sorry, dear employers, but that’s exactly how it’s done.

The beginning of the year is a good time to look ahead to what awaits us. Here, for example, we take a look at the series highlights in 2024 or the best new games that await us this year. Am I already hearing the spinning tires of GTA 6?

Klingeling: Curious emergency calls

It was probably more of a helpful dial tone. Hello? Emergency control center? Well finally. I, uh, have a problem. The penguins are dead, I ran over them. Really! Or what are those black and white guide posts on the side of the road called?

The provider Vodafone has been collecting such strange emergency calls throughout the past year and reports, among other things, a very spicy call to the emergency services. A 56-year-old man found a strange woman in his own bed and didn’t know what to do. However, it turned out on site – it was his own partner.

All Germans are allowed to charge their electric cars once for free

You can think whatever you want about Elon Musk. Like every person walking on this earth. But a small “thank you” might escape one or the other when the next battery charge of the electric car (worth between 30 and 50 euros on average) goes on the neck of the Tesla founder.

Anyone who has an electric car can charge for free at Tesla's Superchargers until Saturday. No matter what kind of car it is. It just can't be a Tesla.

No joke – Tesla will pay the bill until the end of Saturday if you charge your electric car at a supercharger. The brand of the electric car doesn’t matter, it just can’t be a Tesla. And you have to use the Tesla app for the first time. Otherwise there is no catch. You can read everything else about this campaign here.

Mid-range electric cars in comparison

Many people don’t even realize how expensive an electric car can actually be in everyday life. Or to put it better: Few people realize that the costs can vary so much. This was recently shown in this comparison test of mid-range electric cars.

Tesla Model 3 vs. BYD Seal vs. VW ID.7 - which mid-range electric car wins the comparison test? Who offers the most range for the money?

The following competed: Tesla Model 3, VW ID.7 and BYD Seal. If you like, the USA, Germany and China fought for the crown of the best electric car. Unfortunately, the Volkswagen was particularly negative when it came to charging costs. The ID.7 was almost twice as expensive in everyday use as the Tesla Model 3. VW received praise for this elsewhere.

Just played through Tetris

Do you know the ending of Tetris? I bet not. Until now, I wasn’t even aware that you could even play through the classic game. And in fact, people all over the world failed at it for 30 years (!). What they couldn’t do, a 13 year old boy could now do. That’s right – “Blue Scuti” has reached the end of Tetris!

What appears at level 157 after 38 minutes of constant playing time was not on my list. Apparently neither does Blue Scuti. Check out his reaction to the end of Tetris in this video.

A real keyboard for the iPhone

Anyone who has ever had a Blackberry may still miss it – the keyboard on the smartphone. For example, I regularly curse poorly functioning virtual keyboards. I can’t and don’t want to write longer texts with it.

Clicks is a practical keyboard for your iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro.

The iPhone keyboard Clicks immediately triggered a “want to have” feeling. The keys are even illuminated and the virtual keyboard always has a break when it is in use. iOS no longer shows them and you always have more screen space available. It is even compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro Max I am currently using. But then I had a few doubts. But maybe this is something for you?

What else happened: German footballer made others ashamed

“German footballer embarrasses himself with AI model” is the headline in the Bild newspaper and I immediately had question marks on my forehead. How can you embarrass yourself in front of the AI? I wouldn’t be embarrassed in front of her.

But the story is as strange as it is predictable. Someone develops a beautiful but virtual personality for social media. A few posts later, the first attempts at flirting from potential suitors follow. Of course, they don’t end up in the virtual beauty’s inbox, but on the programmer’s desk. And he tells the story in the British Daily Mail.

“Through Instagram direct messages, it’s really famous people like footballers, billionaires, MMA fighters and tennis players who want to contact her. They believe she’s real. They invite her to Dubai to meet her and in to eat in a great restaurant,” says the programmer. A very well-known German professional footballer was also among those interested in flirting. And we can all now only guess who that might have been…

The joke of the week

Friends of the internet world, what AI continues to have major problems with is flat jokes. Tricks, they are often so hollow that we humans can hardly understand them anyway and cannot understand why we even laugh about them. Like the following example. But here the lights go out for now. Bye, see you next Friday. Here’s to a wonderful and hopefully peaceful 2024!

Why did the largest tea retailer have to close?

He had teenagers in the house…

There are even more jokes here on Netzwelt.

A lot of effort goes into this. We look forward to a recommendation!
