Heiko Maas has a new job

Heiko Maas leaves the Bundestag in December, but he is not short of tasks. In addition to the job in a large law firm, he is now going into the steel industry – but the 56-year-old does not earn any money there.

Former Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has a new position and will represent the interests of the Saarland steel industry on a voluntary basis. In Dillingen he was elected President of the Saarhütten Association, as the association announced.

With the transformation towards the production of green steel, the Saarland steel industry is facing an “unprecedented process of change”, Maas explained after his election. “I’m looking forward to actively shaping this phase.”

The Saarhütten Association represents the interests of 20 companies with a total of around 13,300 employees. According to his own statements, he is committed to good location conditions for companies in Saarland and also conducts collective bargaining with trade unions, among other things. In the past, Maas has always stood up for the Saarland steel industry.

Maas advises industrial clients

The 56-year-old resigned his seat in the Bundestag in December and became a partner in the major law firm GSK Stockmann. There he will advise clients from industry with domestic and foreign connections, especially in regulated areas of the economy.

Already after the resignation of the mandate, various media reported that Maas was being discussed for the position in the Saarhütten Association. He was previously Federal Foreign Minister and Federal Minister of Justice. In his homeland, Saarland, Maas was also a member of parliament, economics minister and deputy prime minister.
