The Fiat 600e was unveiled by the Stellantis group to come and play in the field of crossovers. With a price tag of less than $40,000 and a potential range of 400 kilometers, the electric compact SUV has some compelling arguments.

The SUV market is very lucrative for automakers, information is almost commonplace today. Crossovers, these compact SUVs are even more popular in urban areas because of their limited size. Fiat has understood this and it is with this in mind that the brand presented its latest addition on Tuesday, the Fiat 600e. It arises in direct competition with the next Volvo EX30. Inspired by the small Fiat 600 of the 1950s, the SUV is intended to be a tribute without either falling into the retro-futuristic.

A versatile electric SUV

With its 4.17 meters long, we therefore expect a very maneuverable vehicle that is easy to take in areas with high traffic density. The Fiat 600e is a five-door that can carry up to five passengers and offers a boot capacity of 360 litres. It thus surpasses that of the Volvo EX30, which tops out at 318 litres. In addition to the trunk, 15 liters of storage are available in the various compartments of the vehicle.

Because the small battle of dimensions is really played out to the centimeter in each automotive segment, the Fiat is doing better than its competitor since Volvo’s next SUV measures 4.23 meters. A close rivalry.

Performance and technical characteristics

The 600e is powered by a 54 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and is said to offer a range of 600 kilos under the WLTP cycle. In real life, we should rather count on 400 kilometers, because we know that the WLTP procedure shows results that are far too generous. The crossover will be based on the second generation “eCMP” platform produced by Stellantis and will share several elements with the Jeep Avenger. Both vehicles will be produced in Poland.

In terms of the engine, this new Fiat will be powered by a 115 kilowatt (156 horsepower) electric motor. The exercise from 0 to 100 km/h is shot in nine seconds, which is perfectly sufficient for this type of vehicle. Three driving modes will be available: eco, normal and sport. Even if in the case of the last mode, we are entitled to wonder how sporty a 156 horsepower crossover can be. The battery can benefit from a fast charge of 100 kilowatts and can be recharged from 10% to 80% in just under 30 minutes.

Currently, the compact SUV segment is the one that is growing the most in Europe and all manufacturers want to have their share of the pie. Fiat clearly aims to regain market share with this new crossover. Its attractive price of 36,490 euros as well as the services it offers will perhaps play in its favor.
