Google has announced new functions for its Pixel smartphones, starting with the Pixel 8 Pro which will be the first to take advantage of Gemini, Google’s new language model.
This Wednesday, Google unveiled Gemini, its new AI model perfecting Google Bard. Following the presentation, Google announced the deployment of Gemini this month on a smartphone.
On the occasion of the announcement of “ feature drop » of December for Pixel smartphones, the American manufacturer revealed that the Google Pixel 8 Pro will be the very first smartphone to feature its new Gemini model. Here is the version “ Nano» of the language model that will be proposed. Unlike the Ultra and Pro versions, the Nano version has the advantage of being able to run locally on the user’s smartphone. An interest which is therefore double for users since we will be able to benefit from Gemini even without an Internet connection and the requests do not need to be sent to Google servers.
In detail, Google specifies that Gemini will initially be integrated for two uses within the Google Pixel 8 Pro: the voice recorder and quick responses.
On the voice recorder side, the Gemini integration should allow users to request a summary of the discussion they may have recorded: “request a summary of your recorded conversations, interviews and more, even without a network connection“. For quick responses, Gemini will be able to consult the screen in a discussion, on WhatsApp for example, to suggest a response directly in the Google Keyboard. For now, only WhatsApp is affected, but Google promises “more apps next year“.
For now, only the Google Pixel 8 Pro is affected by the arrival of Gemini. A surprising choice considering it shares the same components and processor as the standard Google Pixel 8. We imagine that this is an attempt by Google to receive initial feedback on the proposed uses before a much wider deployment. Note also that Gemini will not yet be available in France at first. Nothing too serious, its announcement is accompanied by other new features for Pixel smartphones.
New features for video and productivity
In addition to these new functions linked to Gemini, Google has unveiled other new features for its Pixels. As one might expect, this is particularly the case with the arrival of a video modetime lapsewith the function “night vision“. Still in the field of video, the Pixel 8 Pro will now be able to benefit from a “Video Boost» which will increase the dynamic range of sequences with richer colors. FunctionPhoto Unblurwhich already allows portraits to be deblurred, will now be extended to animals such as dogs and cats.
Productivity is also key with a function for making video calls from a computer using a Pixel smartphone, connected via USB, as a webcam. The Camera application can also erase stains on administrative documents when you want to take a photo of them for scanning.
All these functions of Google Pixel smartphones will be deployed during the month of December.
