Range iPhone 14 arrives this Friday, September 16 with its batch of novelties. And it is obviously the two most expensive models that benefit from the best innovations.
At this level, it is the famous Always On mode that stands out.
Always on and well optimized?
If this functionality is well known to Android users, it is however the first time that it has landed on an Apple smartphone. Indeed, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max benefit from the Always On display. Remember that this function allows the phone to keep its screen on even when it is old. We can then see different elements such as the time, widgets and the lock screen wallpaper. All with greatly reduced brightness.
When the Always On mode was announced, Apple wanted to reassure its customers by indicating that it has no (or very little) impact on battery life. A feat made possible by a less resource-intensive OLED panel and a refresh rate capable of going down to 1 Hz. In addition, only A16 chip coprocessors with minimum power are used. The display can even turn off automatically. This is the case, for example, when the screen is placed face down or if the user leaves the room leaving his mobile behind him (Apple Watch mandatory in this specific case).
Very simple handling
Despite these few precautions, testers have still noted a more or less significant real impact of Always On on battery life. An impact for the moment difficult to measure since the iPhone 14 has just arrived. Anyway, it is perfectly possible to deactivate the feature to avoid unpleasant surprises. Here’s the procedure to follow :
- Go to Phone Settings
- Tap on “Display and brightness”
- Scroll down and uncheck the button next to Always On
Nothing very complicated then.
