Here’s What Happens to Your Body If You Drink Soda Every Day (It’s Not a Pretty Sight!)

We know that drinking soda is not good for your health, and even less so every day. Some people find it difficult to do without them, but their effects are really harmful to the body.

You can drink it from time to time, during meals with friends for example, but every day, it is absolutely not recommended by doctors, nutritionists and other specialists. Same for sodas which supposedly do not contain sugar. In fact, sodas are a sugar concentrate, even in very small quantities. If Americans consume it excessively, it is quite common to consume it daily, in France too.

According to the American site Huffpost, Virtually all sodas are made with soda water, a sweetener (sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or artificial sweetener), phosphoric acid (which contributes to the soda’s taste and extends its life preservation) and natural flavors. Some sodas, like Pepsi, Coca-Cola Classic, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Mello Yello and Dr Pepper, also contain caffeine, which is also not good for your health.

What effects do soda have on our body?

You should know that a can or bottle of classic soda contains 155 calories, 38 grams of carbohydrates, 37 grams of sugar and 34 milligrams of caffeine. Still according to the Huffpost website, the American Heart Association recommends limiting sugar to 25 grams per day for women and 36 grams per day for men. That is to say less than what is contained in a single can of soda.

Dr. Supriya Rao, a quadruple board certified physician in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Obesity Medicine, notably discussed the adverse effects that soda can have on the intestine. People who consume a lot of it may actually experience bloating and gas because of the carbonation and sugar. Soda can disrupt the gastrointestinal system, and cause abdominal pain or even diarrhea or constipation. This may concern people who consume soda every day because the sugar it contains feeds the ‘bad’ bacteria present in the intestine, which destroys the entire intestinal lining. Here is the assessment drawn up by experts on the subject of soda.
